Singapore – 4 Agustus 2026, The Singapore government will raise the salaries of approximately 36,000 educators starting 1 October 2026. The increase, ranging from 2 percent to 9 percent, covers teachers, allied educators, and kindergarten educators under the Ministry of Education (MOE).
The policy aims to maintain the competitiveness of the teaching profession so that it continues to attract and retain quality educators. The salary adjustment will benefit around 33,000 education officers, 1,700 allied educators, and 1,100 kindergarten educators.
“We want to ensure that the overall salary package remains competitive and that the education service can continue to attract and retain good educators,” said the Ministry of Education (MOE), in Singapore, (3/8/2026).
The last salary review was conducted in 2022. Singapore’s Minister for Education Desmond Lee stated that the government periodically reviews teachers’ welfare to keep the profession competitive.
“Our educators are the heart of the education system. Day in and day out, they go above and beyond to guide students and support their learning journeys,” Lee said.
In addition to the salary increase, the Ministry of Education (MOE) confirmed that educators will continue to receive opportunities to develop their skills and enhance their competencies throughout their careers.
“Teachers are at the core of our education system. Beyond salary adjustments, MOE will continue to provide opportunities for officers to learn and grow throughout their careers,” the Ministry of Education (MOE) stated.
Darryl David, a member of the Singapore Government Parliamentary Committee for Education, described the policy as timely amid rising living costs. However, he noted that teachers’ welfare is also determined by workload, working hours, and career progression.
David also observed that school holidays are not always a period of rest, as many teachers use the time to prepare lessons and complete administrative work.
Meanwhile, the Singapore Teachers’ Union (STU) welcomed the policy. The organization said the salary increase is important to maintain the competitiveness of the teaching profession amid changes in the labor market.
“This increase will help address short-term pressures on educator retention and improve recruitment competitiveness, but it will not by itself resolve long-term career attractiveness unless accompanied by improvements to career pathways and workload management,” said Mike Thiruman, General Secretary of the Singapore Teachers’ Union (STU).
According to Teach Across Asia 2026 data, teacher salaries in Singapore range from SGD 30,000 to over SGD 100,000 per year — approximately IDR 423 million to over IDR 1.41 billion before tax — depending on school type and teaching experience.
Teachers in government schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) earn around SGD 36,000–84,000 per year. Meanwhile, teachers in international schools may receive various additional allowances, such as housing, relocation, health insurance, and tuition fee discounts for their children. (utw)
